Getting around Wałbrzych
You can get around Wałbrzych by MZK bus, on foot and by taxi.
Książ Castle is located outside the city centre. You can get there by MZK bus from the centre in around fifteen minutes; check the current timetable on the MZK Wałbrzych website before you go, as the frequency of services changes seasonally. A taxi shortens the journey, especially if you are travelling in a group.
The Old Mine is close to the centre of Wałbrzych, so you can walk there or take a bus from near the railway station.
The city centre itself is easy to explore on foot. The main attractions in the central area – the Old Mine, Szczawieński Park with the Palm House and the Market Square – are all within a few kilometres of each other.
You do not need a car for a city break in Wałbrzych. City buses and taxis will take you to all the main sights, including Książ Castle. During the summer season, from June to August, it is worth booking accommodation in advance, as hotels in the centre and guesthouses near the castle fill up quickly.

What to see in Wałbrzych – main attractions
Książ Castle
The third largest castle in Poland, surrounded by an extensive landscape park with terraced gardens. A tour of the interiors takes 1.5–2 hours. There is an entrance fee, and in the summer season it is worth buying tickets online in advance as queues at the ticket office can be long. The castle park itself is free to enter and deserves an extra hour of wandering, especially in spring.
Old Mine
The former Julia coal mine, now transformed into a science and arts centre. The tour takes 1.5–2 hours. You will see underground tunnels, mining machinery and exhibitions on the history of mining in Lower Silesia. There is an entrance fee.
Szczawieński Park
An extensive landscape park with walking paths, ponds and historic park architecture. A walk takes 1–2 hours. Entrance is free.
Palm House in Szczawieński Park
One of the largest palm houses in Poland, with a collection of tropical and subtropical plants. The tour takes 30–45 minutes. There is an entrance fee. It makes a pleasant stop after a walk in the park.
Museum of Industry and Technology
Part of the Old Mine complex, dedicated to the industrial history of the region. The tour takes 45–60 minutes. There is an entrance fee and it is easy to combine with a visit to the Old Mine.
