Spring (April-June)

You can get to Bialystok directly from several large cities - Warsaw, Lodz, Krakow, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Suwalki.

Suwałki - Białystok

Transport on site in Bialystok

From the Bialystok station you walk along Lipowa Street straight south - it takes about a dozen minutes to reach the Old Town Square. If you have heavy luggage, taxis are waiting at the station - the ride to the centre is a dozen or so zlotys.

Public transport is provided by MZK Białystok - the bus network covers the centre and districts. A single ticket is a few zlotys, and a daily ticket costs a dozen or so. Check current prices on the MZK website. For a city break, the bus will mainly be useful to get to the Park on Patera or further districts - the rest of the attractions are within walking distance.

Get around the centre of Bialystok on foot. Branicki Palace, the Market Square, the Cathedral and the main museums are all close by. Lipowa Street connects the train station to the Market Square - you pass cafes, shops and greenery along the way.

What to see in Bialystok - highlights

Branicki Palace

An 18th-century baroque palace, known as the 'Polish Versailles'. Today it houses the Medical University, but the park with fountains and gardens are open to visitors. Entry is charged - check the current schedule before visiting. The tour takes 45-60 minutes. It is quieter in the morning and the light is better for photos.


Old Town Square

The historic centre of Bialystok with townhouses from the 16th-18th centuries, a fountain in the middle and restaurants all around. In the evening it is well worth returning here - the illuminated facades and outdoor tables create a wonderful atmosphere for dinner. Plan 1.5-2 hours for a stroll and a meal.


Cathedral of the Holy Spirit

A neoclassical church from the 19th century with a richly decorated interior and frescoes. Entrance is free and the visit takes 30 minutes. Appropriate dress is required.


Park na Paterze

A large park on the site of former fortifications - walking and cycling paths, with views over the city. Admission is free and the park is open all year round. Plan 1-1.5 hours for a walk. It looks particularly beautiful in autumn thanks to the colourful trees.


Museum of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy

A unique exhibition of historical medical instruments, medicines and apothecary vessels. This is a lesser-known museum, but well worth a visit. The tour takes 45 minutes. Entry is charged.


Jewish Culture Festival (September-October)

Klezmer music, walks through the former Jewish quarter, lectures and workshops. If you are planning a visit in autumn, it is worth timing your trip to coincide with this event.
