Train to Klodzko - connections, tickets and itinerary

The Kłodzko Main Railway Station is a few minutes' walk from the Market Square, so when you get off the train you will quickly reach the centre of the historic town in the Kłodzko Basin. Spring (March–May)

If you are travelling from Opole, Gliwice or Kędzierzyn-Koźle, you will get there with one change - usually in Wrocław.

Transport on site in Klodzko

After leaving Klodzko Glowny railway station, you head towards the centre - you can reach the Market Square on foot in about a dozen minutes. You walk gently down the streets with tenement houses.

You can reach the Kłodzko Fortress from the railway station in several minutes, but the last section leads uphill. It is worth planning the ascent to start the day.

The market square, church, Gothic Bridge and the entrance to the Underground Tourist Route are all within 1-2 km of the station, so you can get around the centre on foot.

City buses are useful for getting to further districts and surrounding towns, such as Bystrzyca Kłodzka and Lądek-Zdrój. A single ticket costs a few zlotys.

You can get to the spas - Polanica-Zdrój, Duszniki-Zdrój and Kudowa-Zdrój - by train from the Kłodzko Główne or Kłodzko Miasto railway stations. You leave in the morning, after a few dozen minutes you are there, and return in the evening for an overnight stay.

Taxis and shuttle apps come in handy when returning with heavy luggage or late at night.

You can find hotels and guesthouses in the centre, a few minutes' walk from the Market Square. During the summer season it is worth booking accommodation in advance, as the accommodation base in Klodzko is not large.

What to see in Klodzko - main attractions

Kłodzko Fortress

The city's biggest attraction and one of the best-preserved bastion fortresses in Poland. A guided tour takes about 1.5-2 hours - you will pass through casemates, underground corridors and bastions. From the walls you can see the whole of Kłodzko and the Kłodzko Basin up to the Sudeten ranges. There is an entrance fee. The fortress is open seasonally, so check the current hours on the facility's website before you go.


Kłodzko Market Square

The centre of town life with its Renaissance and Baroque town houses, fountain and town hall. A walk around the Market Square and adjacent streets takes about 30-45 minutes. Restaurants, cafés and souvenir shops are concentrated here. At weekends, there is a market with local products in the Market Square.


Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

A Gothic church standing by the Market Square - entrance is free. Inside you will see Baroque altars and Gothic vaults. The tour takes about 30-45 minutes. It is best to enter outside mass times.


Underground tourist route

Several hundred metres of corridors hollowed out under the city - guided tour takes about 45 minutes. There is an entrance fee. During the tour you will learn about the history of underground Kłodzko since the Middle Ages. The temperature underground stays around 10°C, so even in summer it is worth bringing a sweatshirt.


The Gothic Bridge

One of the few Gothic bridges in Poland, compared to Prague's Charles Bridge - in miniature. The walk and photos take about 15 minutes. The bridge connects two parts of the old town and several baroque statues of saints stand by it.


Plan for day 1

Morning: Klodzko Fortress (1.5-2 hours) - start there while you have the strength to walk uphill. Midday: Kłodzko Market Square, lunch at a restaurant near the Market Square, Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (total 1.5-2 hours). Afternoon: Underground Tourist Route (takes about 45 minutes to visit), walk to the Gothic Bridge (about 15 minutes). All these places are within a 1.5 km radius, so you will spend the whole day walking.


Plan for the weekend

Day 1: You can arrange the first day in the same way as the 1-day plan - Fortress, Market Square, Underground Tourist Route and Gothic Bridge.

Day 2: Take a train trip to one of the spas - Polanica-Zdrój or Duszniki-Zdrój - or to the Table Mountains to Szczeliniec Wielki. You drive there from Kłodzko for a few dozen minutes, leave in the morning and return in the evening for an overnight stay.

What to eat

The Lower Silesian cuisine in Klodzko has a distinct Czech and Austrian influence. It is worth trying sour soup in bread, dumplings with cabbage and mushrooms and duck in the Lower Silesian style. You can find these dishes in many restaurants on the Market Square.

Restaurants and cafés operate at the Market Square and in the adjacent streets. Lunch in a restaurant costs several dozen zlotys per person. In a bar or bakery you will eat for a dozen zlotys.

Local bakeries and patisseries are worth a visit in the morning - fresh bread and regional pastries, such as strucke and kołacze, are good before a visit.
