Train to Jurata - connections, tickets and itinerary

Jurata station lies in the centre of the resort, a few minutes' walk from the beach and promenade. You can get from Gdynia by POLREGIO train in about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and in summer PKP Intercity runs direct services from Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław.

What to see in Jurata - main attractions

Beaches of Jurata

On the Baltic side there is a wide sandy beach with dunes, ideal for sunbathing and walking. On the Puck Bay side, the water is calmer and shallower, which attracts windsurfers and kite surfers. A walk along both beaches takes about 1-2 hours.

Promenade and centre of Jurata

The intimate main street of the resort with restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops. It takes about 30-45 minutes to walk from one end to the other. In the evening, the promenade comes alive - you'll find restaurants and ice cream parlours.

Hel

A trip by POLREGIOtrain takes about 8 minutes. In Hel, it is worth seeing the Sealarium of the Marine Station of the University of Gdansk, where you can observe grey seals. On the tip of the peninsula there is a lighthouse with an observation point, and in the centre of town there is the Fisheries Museum. Plan 4-5 hours for a full-day excursion.

Jastarnia

A neighbouring town - 5 minutes by train or about 20 minutes by bike. Worth seeing is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the 14th century, the fishing harbour and wide beaches. There are fewer tourists in Jastarnia and more of a fisherman's atmosphere than in Jurata.

Cycling trail along the peninsula

The route from Jurata to Hel, about 12 km long, leads through dunes and pine forests. The bike ride takes about 1 hour one way. On the way you pass Chałupy with its wild beaches and views of the Bay of Puck.

Eating and shopping in Jurata

What to eat

Fish and seafood – fresh fish is the cornerstone of the culinary offering in Jurata and across the Hel Peninsula. At the fish restaurants along the promenade you can order fried cod, plaice or herring, usually served with chips and coleslaw. These eateries operate mainly in the summer season, with some opening as early as May.

Fish soups – fish soup and eel soup are local specialities, available in most restaurants along the promenade. It is worth trying both – eel soup has a distinctive, lightly smoky flavour that is hard to find outside seaside towns.

Ice cream and takeaway snacks – ice cream stalls and fried fish takeaways line the promenade during the summer season. A portion of fried fish to take away is a great option between the beach and your next attraction.

Prices and availability – in high season, restaurant prices are higher than in low season. Establishments a few streets back from the promenade are cheaper and easier to get a table at. In the low season, some restaurants and cafés are closed, so it is worth checking what is open before an autumn or winter visit.

Souvenirs

  • Amber – jewellery and ornaments made from Baltic amber, available in shops along the promenade.

  • Ceramics and woodwork – local souvenirs connected to the sea and the fishing tradition of the peninsula.

  • Fresh fish and smoked products – the fish market in Hel is the best place to buy fresh fish and local smoked goods; well worth a visit when making a day trip by train.
