How much of a discount does a student have on PKP trains?

Wondering how much of a discount a student has on PKP? University students can benefit from a 51% discount on single and season tickets. This is a great opportunity for those commuting to university or returning to their hometowns. To take advantage of this discount, all you need is a valid student card, which is the primary document entitling you to the discount. It is important that the document is up-to-date, as the lack of a valid stamp may result in a surcharge on the full ticket price. PKP student discounts are valid on 2nd class TLK, IC, EIP and EIC trains.

Does the student discount combine with other promotions?

The PKP student discount can be combined with existing promotions such as Super Promo, Promo Plus, Promo 45 (tickets 45% cheaper than the base price), Promo 30 (30% cheaper) and Promo 15 (15% cheaper). The availability of individual promotional tickets depends on the popularity of the train in question, as the Promo offer is based on a dynamic price management system. This means that sometimes simply choosing a train at a slightly less popular time is enough to buy a much cheaper ticket.

Students who plan to travel with at least two people and choose a TLK or IC economy train can also choose the offer for small groups - Cheap with Relatives. To take advantage of the promotional ticket price, all you need to do is travel in a group of 2 to 6 people - all group members then receive a 30% discount on the base ticket price. Do I need a student card to do this? PKP discounts for group travel are also combined with statutory discounts!

To save on travel costs during the week, students can also take advantage of special Multipass and Multipass Max tickets, which do not combine with the discount but still offer attractive travel conditions. Both options are valid for three days - from midnight on Tuesday until midnight on Thursday - and allow an unlimited number of journeys during this time. By choosing Multipass, you can travel on TLK and IC trains in 2nd class for 119 PLN, and in 1st class for 159 PLN. Multipass Max, on the other hand, allows you to travel on all PKP Intercity trains, offering tickets for PLN 239 for 2nd class and PLN 396 for 1st class.

PKP discounts for students over 26 - is it possible?

Can a student over the age of 26 benefit from concessionary travel? PKP discounts in the form of the standard student discount are only available to people up to the age of 26. After this age, you can take advantage of other promotions such as Super Promo tickets or Cheap with Relatives.

An exception to this is for those over the age of 26 who are continuing their studies as doctoral students. PKP discounts for doctoral students are available on similar terms as for students and are also 51% on presentation of a valid doctoral card. An age limit has also been introduced for the discount for doctoral students. Preferential fares are available for those up to the age of 35.

Can foreign students benefit from PKP discounts?

PKP discounts for foreign students are available, but under certain conditions. Foreign students can benefit from discounts if they are studying in Poland and have a Polish student card or an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) presented together with a document confirming the right of permanent residence in Poland.

In the case of non-EU students who are family members of EU citizens, it is also necessary to present the aforementioned documents confirming student status together with the permanent residence card of the EU citizen's family member. In both cases, foreign students can count on a 51% discount on train fares.

ISIC card and discounts on railways - what is worth knowing?

The International Student**Identity Card (**ISIC) is a document confirming student status worldwide. Cardholders can count on discounts in hotels, restaurants and service outlets cooperating with the ISIC programme, as well as cheaper transport, including the ISIC offer of discounts in PKP, but under certain conditions.

Who can benefit from this solution and what discount does the ISIC card offer? The PKP discount entitles only those studying abroad to the statutory student discount (51%) when travelling by rail in Poland. However, they must meet one of three conditions: they must have Polish citizenship, be citizens of the European Union with the right of permanent residence in Poland or be family members of an EU citizen with the right of permanent residence.

How to use the PKP discount? The ISIC card, which is a document certifying study at a foreign university, must be presented to the inspector together with an identity card or other document confirming identity and age. Foreigners must also present a document proving their right of permanent residence. The ISIC pass comes in the form of both a plastic card and a digital version for mobile devices, which are honoured by PKP.

Summary

Discounts on PKP travel are a great option for students who regularly travel around Poland. In order to take advantage of the discounts, all you need is a valid student card or an ISIC card with additional documents proving your citizenship or the right to permanent residence in Poland. In addition to standard discounts, it is also worth paying attention to available promotions and special offers that can further reduce travel costs.
