Deutsche Bahn - routes and connections
Deutsche Bahn's train timetable includes thousands of daily services that connect all of Germany's major regions - from the north to the Alps. Thanks to the extensive rail infrastructure, journeys between major metropolises are fast, comfortable and punctual. ICE (Intercity Express) high-speed trains reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, running between Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Stuttgart or Düsseldorf, among others. During peak hours, trains depart every 30-60 minutes, allowing you to plan your journey with great flexibility.
Shorter routes are served by Intercity (IC) trains, which connect medium-sized cities and provide transfers to regional trains. Regional Express (RE) and Regionalbahn (RB), on the other hand, operate local connections, taking passengers to major transport hubs such as Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Frankfurt Hbf or Hamburg Hbf. The entire network operates under a single, integrated timetable system, making it possible to purchase tickets for combined routes in a single transaction.
To illustrate the pace and scale of connections, it is worth citing a few examples:
● Berlin - Munich: the fastest journey takes 3 hours 52 minutes and there are around 18 ICE trains on this route each day. The distance between the cities is 504 km.
● Frankfurt - Cologne: just 1 hour and 3 minutes is enough to cover 152 km - this is one of the most frequently operated services, with more than 20 daily runs.
● Dortmund - Munich: the journey takes around 5 hours and 39 minutes, with trains running an average of 14 times a day, connecting two of Germany's important economic centres.
● Stuttgart - Berlin: the distance of 510 km is covered in 5 hours and 23 minutes, and the timetable includes six connections per day, with the possibility of changing to other ICE or IC lines.
These examples show how efficiently the German rail network works - for both business and tourist travel. Thanks to the high frequency of services, passengers are free to choose their departure times and the type of train, making travel in Germany extremely convenient.
Deutsche Bahn connections to Poland
Deutsche Bahn's timetable also includes regular services between Germany and Poland. Together with PKP Intercity, the carrier runs daily courses that connect the largest cities in both countries. From Berlin you can travel to Warsaw, Poznań and Cracow. The carrier also offers the opportunity to travel from Wrocław to Berlin. On the other hand, residents of western Poland can take a course from Gdynia to Berlin.
Journey times between the main cities also look very favourable - the journey from Berlin to Warsaw takes around 5 hours and 30 minutes and from Berlin to Poznań just over 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Deutsche Bahn international connections
Deutsche Bahn's timetable includes not only domestic routes, but also connections to other European countries, enabling comfortable travel without changing trains. In the west, the DB network connects Germany with France , with trains reaching Paris, Strasbourg and Marseille. In the south, there are regular services to Austria (Vienna, Innsbruck) and Switzerland (Zurich, Basel). Routes to the Netherlands and Belgium, including from Cologne and Frankfurt to Amsterdam and Brussels, are also popular, as are connections to the Czech Republic, where DB trains travel to Prague and Plzeň.
Through its cooperation with carriers such as PKP Intercity, SNCF, ÖBB and SBB, Deutsche Bahn is creating an extensive international rail network that makes it possible to travel freely throughout Europe.
Modern travel planning system
The Deutsche Bahn timetable is fully integrated into the journey search system of the PolishTrains website. This allows passengers to check available routes, compare journey times and prices in one place and then buy a ticket in a matter of minutes - without having to go to foreign sites.
The search engine automatically takes into account connecting flights, current delays and seat availability in each class. As an added convenience, you can receive notification of upcoming departures and access your order history in the My Travel panel. Tickets for Deutsche Bahn courses can already be purchased approx. 120 days before the planned departure.
Asa reminder, the line does not grant student discounts on the basis of an ID card - however, discounted tickets are available for BahnCard holders, which can be purchased by both German and foreigners.
If necessary, passengers can use the Polish-language PolishTrains helpline for support when purchasing, rescheduling or refunding a Deutsche Bahn ticket. The system also offers deferred payments, so that an order can be finalised at a convenient time - without an immediate charge to the account. This is particularly useful when planning a trip in advance or when purchasing several tickets at once.
