From PKP to the seaside - which cities can you reach by train?

If you're wondering where to get to the seaside by train, there are direct connections to all major cities like:

Gdańsk - this is Poland's largest coastal city, which in itself is an ideal place for a city-break or holiday, but also a base for other destinations. There are almost 30 train stops in Gdańsk, the largest of which are: Gdańsk Główny, Gdańsk Oliwa and Gdańsk Wrzeszcz.

Gdynia - the second largest city in Pomerania and the entire coast is Gdynia. Like Gdańsk, it is perfectly communicated, as it has 11 railway stations. The largest and most important of these is **Dorzec Gdynia Główna. **

Sopot - the last of the Tricity's centres is Sopot. All three centres are connected by the Fast City Railway. This city, although the smallest, is definitely worth seeing. Throughout the year it is visited by numerous tourists who want to stroll along the famous pier or Monciak.

Kołobrzeg - although much smaller than the Tricity, is an important tourist and spa centre with a wide range of services and attractions. It is well connected by rail with other seaside towns and larger cities.

Swinoujscie - a border town in western Poland that is a frequent destination for holidays and long weekends in the warmer months. Many trains arrive there from all corners of the country - even Przemyśl, located on the opposite side of the border.

Among the smaller towns with direct trains to the seaside, especially during the summer season, are:

  • Darłowo,
  • Ustka,
  • Władysławowo,
  • Międzyzdroje,
  • Hel.

It is worth remembering that there are trains to the above-mentioned destinations all year round, but there are definitely more courses in the summer season.

Pendolino to the sea - fast connections and comfortable routes

If you want to shorten your journey and make it more comfortable, consider choosing Pendolino over the sea. The best connection of EIP trains is, of course, with the Tricity, while Pendolino has routes to the seaside to other destinations as well.

☀️W During the summer season, PKP Intercity launches additional EIP lines, which run, among others, from Bielsko-Biała to Ustka

Tri-City

Almost all Pendolino lines travelling through Poland set off or stop in the Tricity. The main station in Gdańsk is the ideal place to change trains to other, smaller seaside towns. Pendolino trains reach the final station at Gdynia Główna from:

Bielsko-Biała - the EIP 4551, EIP 4506 and EIP 4500 trainsets travel from the mountains via Tychy, Katowice, Sosnowiec and Warsaw, among others.

Rzeszów - from the capital of the Subcarpathian region via , among others, Tarnów, Bochnia, Kraków, Warsaw and Malbork, there goes train EIP 3508, which covers the route in 7 hours and 3 minutes.

Zakopane - a Pendolino train connecting the winter capital of Poland with the coast has been running on Polish tracks since 2025. The EIP 3552 train from Zakopane travels via Nowy Targ, Cracow, Warsaw, Ilawa, Malbork and Tczew. With this connection, it is possible to cross the entire country from south to north in 7 hours and 30 minutes.

Gliwice - two Pendolino trains - EIP 4508 and EIP 4502 - run from this city in Upper Silesia to Gdynia Główna station, passing through Zabrze, Katowice, Sosnowiec, Zawiercie, Warsaw, Iława, Malbork, Tczew and all the cities of the Tricity.

Kraków - three direct Pendolino trains to the Tricity depart from Kraków Główny station: EIP 3502, EIP 3510, EIP 3504 and EIP 3506. In addition, you can also use the Rzeszów-Gdynia and Zakopane-Gdynia trains mentioned above.

Warsaw - there are two direct trains starting from Warszawa Zachodnia station, the EIP 1500 and the EIP 1502. However, it should be remembered that all other Pendolino lines connecting Polish cities with the coast pass through the capital and stop at all three of the city's main stations: Zachodni, Centralna and Wschodni. Therefore, when travelling from Warsaw to any of the Tricity's destinations, one can choose from 13 connections.

Słupsk

Although not located directly at the coastline, Slupsk is a good transfer point to nearby seaside towns such as Ustka, Darlowo and Jaroslawiec. There is a direct EIP 3800 train to the city, which departs from Cracow, passing cities such as:

  • Warsaw,
  • Gdańsk,
  • Sopot,
  • Gdynia,
  • Lębork.

The journey takes 6 hours 58 minutes.

Where to get off? The most important railway stations by the sea

Where do trains go to the seaside? Basically, to all places that have working railway stations - and there are quite a few of these on the coast. Which trains go there is a separate question, as not every place can be reached by an express train from the other end of the country.

Important railway stations in Pomerania

By train to the seaside, we can reach many larger and smaller towns in the eastern part of the Polish coast. Among them, the most popular stations are:

Ustka - the railway station in Ustka is located in the very centre of the town, close to shops and hotels, as well as green areas. From the station it is a 1.3 km walk to the beach and the seaport.

Gdańsk Główny - the largest station in Gdańsk, located in the city centre. Gdańsk Główny railway station is close to shops, tourist attractions, museums and a short walk from the beach. Gdańsk Główny is a convenient interchange station for long-distance connections into the country.

Gdynia Główna is a good transfer point for regional trains to coastal towns. From there, it is also only 1.5 km to the City Beach, Kościuszko Square and the adjacent Pomeranian Quay, where you can visit the ORP Błyskawica, the Dar Pomorza or the Gdynia Aquarium.

Sopot - the train station is located in the city centre, very close to the already mentioned Monciak and the Pier. From here, it is close to Sopot's tourist attractions, hotels and accommodation and shops.

Władysławowo - the railway station in Władysławowo is only one kilometre from the harbour and beach, in the town centre. Outside of the holidays, the number of direct connections to this resort is limited, but you can get there from Gdynia Główna or Hel station by Polregio train.

Important stations of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship

The western part of the Polish coast does not have such large seaside cities as Gdynia or Gdańsk, but there are a number of towns and cities that are very popular with tourists at all times of the year, although it is known that most visitors travel there in the summer. In view of this, the PKP launches additional seasonal trains in the summer so that as many travellers as possible can take advantage of the journey.

Kołobrzeg - the most popular station on the coast of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship is Kołobrzeg. From there, other means of transport can be used to reach popular tourist destinations such as Dźwirzyno, Mrzeżyno, Rewal, Niechorze, Pobierowo and Ustronie Morskie. It is also only a kilometrefrom the station to Kolobrzeg's pier and lighthouse.

Świnoujście - although a small town, it is very popular with tourists. For this reason, direct long-distance trains run there from, among others, Cracow, Warsaw, Wrocław and even Rzeszów. Trains pass through the equally popular Międzyzdroje. The station in Świnoujście is located by the harbour, from where it is not far to the lighthouse. A ferry crossing will take you to the town, where you will find the Spa Park, the promenade and the town beach. As it is a border town, Swinoujscie can also be reached by Deutsche Bahn train from across the German border from Züssow, Seebad Heringsdorf or Wolfast.

Słupsk - this is one of the larger cities in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. From here you can reach other smaller towns popular in the summer season: Darłowo, Kołobrzeg and Ustka.
