Renfe offers four main fares, which vary in terms of the range of services, the ability to make changes and the comfort of the journey. This allows passengers to tailor a ticket to suit their needs - from an economical fare to a flexible, fully comfortable journey with food and beverage service.

Básico - the simplest and cheapest ticket option.

It includes a standard seat and the carriage of up to three pieces of luggage weighing up to 25kg in total (i.e. within Renfe's standard baggage policy). It does not provide refunds or date changes, but allows you to get the lowest possible price. It is a good choice for those with a fixed itinerary.

Elige Estándar - a ticket with greater flexibility.

It allows one free change of travel dates and in the event of cancellation, the passenger is refunded 70% of the ticket value. A surcharge option is available for additional amenities such as seat selection, transport of pets (up to 10 kg) or a special Superflex package, including a full refund upon cancellation.

Elige Confort - higher standard in second class

Offers wide XL Confort seats, as well as flexible terms and conditions - the first change of date is free of charge and refunds on cancellation are 70% of the ticket price. In addition, you can purchase access to services such as a meal served on board.

Prémium - the most extensive option, available on selected AVE and Larga Distancia trains.

The ticket includes XL Comfort seats, unlimited free date changes, full refund upon cancellation and all the amenities: seat selection, carriage of small animals and catering included in the price. It's a proposition for passengers expecting the ultimate in comfort and complete travel flexibility.

Renfe operates an extensive concession scheme covering different groups of passengers. Discounts apply to both domestic and international trains.

👧Children up to and including the age of 3 travel free unless they occupy a separate seat, and children aged 4 to 13 receive a 40% discount on most connections.

👩‍🦰Młodzież**(aged 14-25**) can benefit from discounts of up to 30% of the ticket value. Such discounts are available through the Más Renfe Joven programme, which requires the purchase of a card costing €50. Renfe also recognises international cards such as EYCA and ISIC, which entitle students to student discounts with discounts of up to 30%.

👵Seniors over 60 receive discounts of up to 40% of the ticket value if they are holders of the Tarjeta Dorada card (€6).

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Grupy from 4 to 9 people can benefit from discount packages, which usually offer a fixed percentage discount (e.g. 8% less per ticket). For larger groups the rates may be different.

Discounts are applied automatically in the system - simply tick the relevant category when purchasing a ticket on the PolishTrains website.

Renfe allows passengers to carry, free of charge, up to three pieces of luggage, the total weight of which does not exceed 25 kg and 290 cm in length. If the weight limit or the number of pieces is exceeded, the carrier charges an additional fee according to the price list applicable to the route (various amounts; usually €10-15) .

With regard to sports equipment, bicycles or scooters that can be dismantled are treated as hand luggage . For standard models of unicycles, carriage rules vary depending on the route and type of train. On longer distances, a fee is usually charged and carriage requires the purchase of an additional ticket for the bicycle.

Renfe allows the carriage of small pets - dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets or birds weighing up to 10 kg, in enclosed carriers with maximum dimensions of 60x35x35 cm. Each passenger can take one animal, as long as they have a valid ticket.

On selected AVE trains, it is possible to travel with a dog weighing up to 40 kg - for an additional charge of €35. The animal must have an insurance policy, a vaccination card and the owner is required to make a liability declaration. Travel with a large dog requires an early arrival at the customer service centre (40 minutes) to present the required documents.

The extent to which travel dates are modified depends on the selected fare. In Básico, no modifications or refunds are provided. In Elige Estándar and Elige Confort, the first date change is free of charge and a refund of 70% of the ticket value is available upon cancellation; add-ons (e.g. Superflex with full refund) can also be purchased. In Prémium, there are unlimited changes at no charge and a refund of up to 100%, and the price includes seat selection and other amenities.

When you buy your Renfe tickets from PolishTrains, all the paperwork (change, refund, invoice) will be handled in your My Travel panel.

Thanks to its integration with the Spanish PolishTrains system, Renfe tickets can be purchased directly from Poland. Users can compare prices in different classes, select a specific seat in the carriage and pay for their order in zloty. What is more, it is possible to buy a ticket for a selected journey as early as 80 days before the planned date.

As an additional convenience, it is possible to use deferred payment or to purchase group tickets. In the event of problems, passengers can contact the PolishTrains helpline, which provides support with route planning, date changes or VAT invoicing.
