Roztocze National Park

The Roztocze National Park is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions of the Lublin region. This place has the highest forest cover of any national park in Poland - as much as 95%. The park is based in charming Zwierzyniec, known for its picturesque St John of Nepomuk Church, situated on an island in the middle of a lake.

When discovering the charms of the park, it is worth climbing Bukowa Góra, which offers a magnificent view of the Roztocze countryside. Another place that is a Lublin attraction is Poleski National Park, where you can relax surrounded by forests and to the sound of birdsong. Urszulin is home to the park's didactic centre and headquarters, which also houses the "Mud Turtle Conservation Centre". - a unique place to observe these fascinating reptiles.

Polesie National Park is an excellent area for fans of marshes and swamps. Wooden footbridges leading across the site make it easy to explore, and the viewing towers located here further allow you to admire the surroundings. From their heights, numerous species of birds can be spotted, representing the region's greatest wealth. There are also a number of interesting nature trails, such as Perehod, Dominik Oak, Splawy, Insurgent Camp and Czahary. For the youngest visitors, there is a special trail called 'Turtle'. All these paths have been designed to protect the natural ecosystem, allowing visitors to observe animals without disturbing them.

Lublin

Be sure to visit Lublin, one of the oldest cities in Poland, over 700 years old. You can reach the centre of the city comfortably by train, and after leaving the station, you can immediately set off on a sightseeing tour. Lublin's most valuable monuments include the Lublin Castle with its 13th-century residential and defence tower and the Holy Trinity Chapel, famous for its beautiful frescoes.

A few minutes' walk from the castle is the Cracow Gate, which is a remnant of the former defensive walls. Next, it is worth heading towards the picturesque Old Town - one of the most beautiful in Poland. The renovated, colourful tenement houses create a unique atmosphere, ideal for relaxation. Numerous cafés and restaurants are located here, where it is worth trying local delicacies, such as cebularz. Impressive, colourful murals also catch the eye here.

An interesting attraction is the underground tourist route, allowing you to discover Lublin from a different perspective. It is located in the heart of the Old Town, under the market square and the nearby streets. The corridors, with a total length of about 1.5 km, include restored cellars and medieval passages that once served as warehouses, shelters and trade routes. The tour lasts about an hour and offers exhibitions on the history of the city, its architecture and the daily life of its former inhabitants.

It is worth noting that Lublin is conveniently located at the intersection of important transport routes. This means that, for example, you can get here from Warsaw by train in just two hours. It is also a good transfer station for local connections, allowing you to explore the entire province.

Zamość

Zamość is a real pearl of the Lublin Voivodeship. Attractions of this city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, include first of all the impressive market square with the characteristic town hall. The Mannerist-Baroque style building, with its postcard-perfect 53-metre high clock tower, is one of the symbols of the city. Around the market square are renovated townhouses with arcades, which create a unique atmosphere. In addition, the two other markets - Wodny and Solny - are also worth a visit, as are the mighty bastions, reminders of Zamość's rich defensive history.

One of the most interesting attractions is the underground tourist route, which allows you to discover the city from a different perspective. The undergrounds, dating back to the 16th century, were built at the time when Zamość was founded by Jan Zamoyski. They served both as cellars for storing food and as shelters in times of danger. The route, some 300 metres long, leads through a labyrinth of corridors and rooms. Visitors can admire original architectural elements such as brick walls, vaults and the remains of former cellars.

Zamość can be conveniently reached by regional train, which stops at the stations: Zamość, Zamość Starówka and Zamość Wschód.

Land of loess ravines

In the vicinity of two popular towns - Kazimierz Dolny and Nałęczów - you will discover a rich network of loess ravines. Loess is a soil consisting mainly of fine mineral particles, such as dust and sand. The gorges are formed by erosion of these extremely fertile soils. Korzeniowy Dół, Wąwóz Głowackiego, Wąwóz Glinianki and Wąwóz Na Króla in Bochotnica are places you absolutely must visit.

Did you know that night walks through the gorges by torchlight are organised in the Kazimierz Dolny area? This is an amazing attraction! Naturally created forest gorges can certainly be counted among the cool places in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. What's more, there are so many of them that you can go for a walk in a different place every time.

Szumy nad Tanwią

Another fascinating point on the map of the voivodeship is szumy - charming, small waterfalls on the Tanew River. The reserve protecting this natural place was established in 1958 in Rebizanty. The origin of the hummocks is extremely interesting - they were formed as a result of the folding of the Carpathian Mountains and mark the geological border between Western and Eastern Europe, which runs in a very visible way here. A didactic path about 3 kilometres long has been prepared for visitors to learn more about this unusual phenomenon.

Temple of the Sibyl in Puławy

Pulawy is a picturesque town associated with the Czartoryski family and known above all for its rich history. It is worth visiting the Czartoryski Palace, designed by the baroque architect Tylman of Gameren. The building is surrounded by a beautiful French-style park covering an area of 30 hectares. In the park itself is the Temple of Sybil, the place where Izabella Czartoryska founded the first museum in Poland. In addition to the Temple, other monuments can be admired here, such as the Gothic House, Marynki Palace and the Roman Gate.

The castle in Janowiec

An undoubtedly interesting place in the Lublin region is Janowiec, a picturesque village opposite Kazimierz Dolny, famous for its castle from the 16th century, built for Mikołaj Firlej. This building, situated on a hill above the Vistula River, hides the legend of the Black Lady, or Helena Lubomirska, who, according to the story, threw herself from the castle walls because of an unhappy love. Although the castle has not survived in the best condition, it has been part of the Nadwiślańskie Museum since 1993 and is gradually being renovated. What's more, its walls offer beautiful views of the Vistula River and Kazimierz Dolny. It is also the venue for many events associated with the Kazimierz Dolny Film Festival.

Kozłówka Palace

Just 30 kilometres from Lublin is the Park and Palace Complex in Kozłówka, once the property of the Zamoyski family. The palace, built in the 18th century in Baroque style, has been preserved in excellent condition - both externally and internally. This is a unique opportunity to see the original magnate's residence. An interesting exhibition of socialist realist art has been set up in the carriage house, which makes the palace even more appealing to tourists.

Emilcin Polish Roswell

One of the best attractions for children in the Lublin region is the small village of Emilcin. It is a fascinating place especially for little fans of unexplained phenomena. The village became famous after an alleged encounter between farmer Jan Wolski and aliens on 10 May 1978. According to his story, he gave them a ride in his wagon and saw their spaceship. Inside it, he was examined and then let go. Opinions are, of course, divided on the reality of this encounter; there is a large group of people for whom it is as true a story as possible. There is a commemorative stone in the centre of the village with a plaque commemorating the event, which attracts tourists from all over Poland and abroad. It is a great opportunity to take a photo at the "Polish Roswell" and tell your children about this fascinating story.

Park of Sounds

Another unusual place is the Park of Sounds in Dąbrówka, located north of Lublin. Kazimierz Dolny

Kazimierz Dolny is a charming town with a unique atmosphere, which for years has attracted artists eager to open their studios here and immortalise local landscapes on their canvases. It is a particularly recommended place for a Sunday outing in Lubelskie.

The town is named after Casimir the Just, which emphasises the royal roots of these lands. This rich past is reflected in the numerous monuments which can be admired while strolling through the town:

• The parish church of St. John the Baptist and St. Bartholomew from the 16th century, with an organ in a larch setting.

• St Anne's Church - erected between 1683 and 1686 at the request of the Bishop of Kraków, Jan Małachowski - is a good example of Baroque sacral architecture.

• The Mannerist tenement houses of Przybyłów - dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, constitute a complex of buildings that once performed residential and commercial functions. The name "Przybyłów" comes from the surname of one of the families owning these tenements.

• Castle ruins on Góra Zamkowa - a place offering beautiful views of the Vistula valley. The castle was built in the second half of the 14th century by order of Casimir the Great. Its purpose was to secure an important trade route and protect the area from invasions. During its heyday, it performed defensive as well as administrative functions. In addition, it was the seat of aldermen and a meeting place for local authorities. Kazimierz Dolny is a place worth visiting to savour its unique atmosphere and rich cultural heritage.

Chełm

What else to visit in Lubelskie? Chełm, of course! Situated in the east of the voivodeship, this city is the perfect destination for a day trip. Thanks to convenient railway connections, travelling to Chełm is convenient and hassle-free. The railway station, situated close to the centre, makes it easy to reach all the city's attractions.

Without doubt, the most interesting monument is the chalk mine. Its underground corridors, stretching for several kilometres, hide a fascinating history. Although only a two-kilometre section is open to tourists, it still provides an unforgettable experience. Underground, visitors can admire exhibitions on the old workings of the mine and the history of the town. Interestingly, Chelm's location on chalky ground influences its architecture - due to the nature of the ground, no tall buildings are constructed in the town, giving it a unique character.
