2.1 Sekler Gate

Seklerska Gate is a symbol of Polish-Hungarian solidarity, commemorating the figure of Józef Bem. The gate was donated to the city by the Hungarians on the 170th anniversary of the Battle of Ostroleka, in which Gen. Bem proved himself. Hungarians often commemorate special relations with other nations in this way. The richly decorated wooden structure is a masterpiece of carpentry and an example of the traditional style of the Seklers, an ethnic group living in the eastern part of Transylvania (now Romania) who cherish their Hungarian roots. This museum houses a remarkable collection dedicated to the Roma, their culture and history. It is the first museum in Poland dedicated to this community. It is housed in a historic building of a former Jewish ritual bath (mikvah), which further emphasises its multicultural character. The historic tram, standing in Sobieski Square, is a faithful replica of Tarnów's "ladyboys", which will take you back to the beginning of the 20th century. The mausoleum of General Józef Bem in Tarnów is more than just a tomb. It is a symbolic place of remembrance of one of the most eminent Polish military commanders, whose remains are laid to rest on an islet in Strzelecki Park. Interestingly, General Bem's ashes, which were brought to Tarnów in 1929 from Aleppo, Syria, where the general died in 1850, were deposited here. 2.5 Jewish Cemetery

The Tarnów cemetery is one of the oldest and best preserved Jewish cemeteries in Poland. Established in the 16th century, it covers more than 3 hectares and hides thousands of tombstones that testify to the fact that Tarnów was one of the most important centres of Jewish life in Galicia. Within the cemetery is a symbolic monument, a fragment of the destroyed synagogue, which commemorates the tragic events of the war. 2.6 Old Bathhouse

Situated on Auschwitz Prisoners' Square, Tarnów's mikveh dates back to the early 20th century and is one of the few surviving traces of the Jews who lived in the city. The Old Bathhouse was an important part of the everyday life of Tarnów's Jews. In those days, public baths were not only places to bathe, but also to socialise and exchange information. You may remember the building of the Old Bathhouse from the TV programme "Kitchen Revolutions" - one of the episodes was about the restaurant located in this very building. Established in the Middle Ages, Tarnów's market square has retained its regular rectangular layout with four main streets leading to the four corners of the world. The square is dominated by the Renaissance town hall, with its characteristic tower. 3. HOW TO GET TO TARNÓW?

Most convenient - by train! Tarnów is well connected by rail to many cities in Poland. The main railway station itself is only a few minutes from the city centre. The most popular direct connections are: Kraków-Tarnów, Przemyśl-Warsaw or Wrocław-Tarnów. An InterCity train takes only 40 minutes from Krakow.
