Legnica - see attractions and sights you must see
Legnica is a town with an interesting history and a unique atmosphere, but it is still somewhat overshadowed by the more famous Lower Silesian destinations. This is a pity, as the local monuments and attractions should be of interest to those who enjoy reminiscing about epoch-making events, as well as those who appreciate contact with culture. What attractions does Legnica have to offer to tourists? Here are a few of them.
Piast Castle
As far as monuments are concerned, Legnica stands out first and foremost with the Piast Castle. It is one of the oldest masonry castles in Poland - it was built in the 12th-13th century by the Piasts. For over 750 years it was the seat of princes, aldermen and institutions - until 1945. Today, it houses, among other things, the Copper Museum - you can visit the Romanesque relics of the chapel, the Romanesque and Neo-Gothic towers (St. Peter's, St. Jadwiga), the courtyard and the terrace with views. The castle is a few minutes' walk from the station**(at 1 Castle Square)**.
Tours of the castle include: pavilion with relics of the Romanesque chapel, St. Peter's tower with viewing terrace, castle gate, St. Hedwig's tower with green chamber

Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul
Not sure what to do during your stay in Legnica? What is worth seeing? Consider the historic churches, of which there is no shortage here. The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is the dominant feature of Cathedral Square - a large, three-nave church with two towers, Gothic portals and valuable interior space (epitaphs, a Baroque altar, a Renaissance pulpit and rich sacred furnishings). The cathedral became the seat of the diocese in 1992 and Pope John Paul II visited it in 1997. It is a place of reflection and architectural class, worth at least an hour's visit.
Copper Museum
What attractions does Legnica offer to culture lovers? The Copper Museum, for example, is an institution that combines local tradition (the heritage of Legnica's copper) with a modern narrative about the role of metal in everyday life and art. Its extensive educational offer makes it a must-see for families with children, enthusiasts of technology, history and art.
The museum also includes the Chapel of St. Benedict and St. Lawrence in the Piast Castle, the Lapidarium (the largest in Lower Silesia), as well as the Museum of the Battle of Legnica in Legnickie Pole and the Knights' Academy - the first Baroque educational building in the city. Address of the Copper Museum: 3 Partyzantów Street - the museum is located less than a kilometre from the Legnica railway station, right on the Market Square, in a historic Baroque building.

Mausoleum of the Silesian Piasts
Hidden in the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Mausoleum is the first Baroque burial chapel in Silesia. It contains elaborate decorations, including ornate sarcophagi of the last Piasts (including George William) and a dome with a Helios fresco. One of the most important attractions in Legnica, an outstanding work of art whose spirit of history and aesthetic value speak for themselves. The building is accessible with a ticket to the Copper Museum.
What is worth seeing in Legnica?
Visiting Legnica is a journey through the ages - from medieval walls to traces of the Soviet past. The city offers a whole range of attractions, including monumental buildings, atmospheric streets, modern cultural spaces. The well-organised centre means that all the most interesting places are within walking distance. If you are planning a trip and wondering what is really worth seeing in the city of Legnica, the attractions described below should be on your list.
St. Mary's Church
There are some places and objects that simply cannot be missed during a visit to the town of Legnica. Monuments that belong to such a list include the church located at 1 Mariacki Square. It is the oldest temple in Legnica - its origins date back to the 12th century. It may interest you with its northern and western portals from the 15th century and its impressive construction: three naves, two towers (approx. 62 m) and unusual stained glass windows. The interior is a sizeable work of medieval sacred craftsmanship and history preserved in brick. An ideal spot for a moment of reflection and an architectural feast.
Neptune's Fountain
What sights are worth considering when visiting Legnica? What to see, where to go? When visiting the old town, take a look at its southern side - against the backdrop of medieval buildings stands the baroque Neptune's Fountain from 1731. In its centre, Neptune with his trident takes pride of place, with dolphins sculpted at his feet. The fountain has survived the centuries, complementing the urban landscape after its revitalisation a century ago. Consider it a historical curiosity and... a great backdrop for a family photo.
Aleja Orła Białego - the city's walking route
This wide, tree-lined thoroughfare connects central parts of Legnica with the City Park and the stadium of the Miedź Legnica football team. The street is full of elegantly restored townhouses, coffee and ice cream outlets, as well as greenery and benches. The informal walking axis is an ideal extension of a weekend trip - unhurried, in the rhythm of the city. Fairs, open-air exhibitions and cultural events are often held along the avenue.
The Herring Tenements (Kamieniczki Śledziowe)
What is worth seeing in Legnica? If you are interested in interesting architecture, we have a unique suggestion. Right next to the Old Town Hall, there is a complex of eight three-storey tenement houses known as Kamieniczki Śledziówki. Their name derives from the medieval fish stalls that once operated on their site. They were first mentioned in 1574, when they were built as Renaissance buildings. Today, they are beautifully illuminated and invariably attract strollers and architecture lovers. The herringbones are not only an impressive decoration of the Market Square, but also a living testimony to Legnica's history, architecture and urban commercial spirit, which took root here as early as the 16th century.

Only have two free days at your disposal and want to visit Lower Silesia? Legnica is a good destination. The attractions for the weekend, which we have described below, are really worth a look.
Town walls with St. Hedwig's Tower
The fragments of medieval city walls with St. Hedwig 's Tower (formerly used as a watchtower) are a return to the old times, when Legnica was a strategic stronghold of the Piast duchy. Although mainly fragments and one tower have survived, a walk in their footsteps allows one to feel the atmosphere of the medieval town. The space is now integrated into the urban landscape, and the reconstruction allows for a closer look at the old defence techniques. This is for those who like to combine a walk with a history lesson!
