The Swiss are the worldwide leaders in cheese consumption. No matter if they are delicate, spicy or cream cheese, 21 kilograms a year are eaten per person.

The Cheese Train

Travelers coming to Switzerland may discover some of its traditional mysteries by traveling on the Cheese Train from Montreux or Zweisimmen to Château-d’Oex past the enchanting Geneva Lake. It is the cuisine journey through the picturesque landscapes and the Alpine culture.

Since 2013, the train allows you delve into the secrets of the most popular Swiss dairy product. The Cheese Train is one of the most popular winter attraction in Switzerland. One-day trip is organised by the Montreux-Bernese Oberland service every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from January to the end of April.

Cheese Train – panoramic rail

Before boarding the Cheese Train, the crew offers a free drink (included in the ticket price). On the board a passenger may relax in the fairy tale Pullmana „Belle Epoque” cars and enjoy the cheese samples watching the enchanting views outside. The passengers are accompanied by the guide.

Time for tasting

After reaching Château-d’Oex – a place located in the Swiss Vaud canton in the Swiss Prealps – the travellers are invited to Le Chalet restaurant, where you may watch traditional making of the cheese conducted by the qualified workers. In Château-d’Oex learn how 200 liters of milk transforms into Le Chalet Bio cheese. After the presentation each may taste that original and delicious bio fondue in the Le Chalet restaurant.

Museum du Pays d’Enhaut

After that tasty adventure one may move on to Museum du Pays d’Enhaut, a genuine folk museum. The visitors may enjoy numerous art and craft exhibits. The museum enchants the visitors with the paper cutouts, as well. This is the ultimate point of that incredible train ride.

Big Family - valid for all types of trains
The presence of at least 2 passengers is required. Each passenger needs to show their own Large Family Card during the ticket inspection. The "Large Family Card" discount is combinable with other legal benefits.
Cheaper with Closest - valid on Intercity and TLK trains
To take advantage of the discount, 2 to 6 people should be present during the trip. The "Cheaper with Family" offer can be combined with 33%, 37%, 51%, 78%, 95% or 100% discounts.
Family Ticket - valid on EIP (Pendolino) and EIC trains
